HOW PAINTING INFLUENCES CINEMA

Posted On 11 May 2016

There is a strong symbiosis between painting and cinema. Both can envelop the viewer, creating an atmosphere and arousing emotions through colour, composition and often without words. The best directors often create a scene from a picture.

The director and photographer Vugar Efendi has taken this relationship between painting and cinema and transformed it into a short video named "Film Meets Art". "Art inspires cinema and cinema inspires art", he states in his presentation. "In this video, I simply wanted to focus on films inspired by famous paintings throughout history." It is a small but fascinating series of combinations, to which a sequel will hopefully follow.

The combinations included in this video include:
Napoleon Bonaparte - The Duelist
Birth of Venus - Adventures of Baron Munchchausen
Boy in Blue - Django Unchained
Last summer - Inherent Vice
House by the Railroad - Psycho
Christina’s World - Days of Heaven
Pacific - Heat
Ophelia - Melancholia
