The best short films in Italy will be competing Saturday, December 10 in Ancona on occasion of the grand final for Corto Dorico. In the enchanting surroundings of the Mole Vanvitelliana, 7 finalists will be submitted to the evaluation of the jury, after being selected from among 200 candidates.
Organised by Nie Wiem and now in its 13th edition, the artistic direction of Corto Dorico is overseen by Daniele Ciprì. Guest star of the event, Leone d'Oro Gianni Amelio, will present his documentary “Felice chi è diverso" and his first novel "Politeama." Corto Dorico remains one of the most important events at a national level and starting this year at an international level, given the participation of filmmakers from different countries such as Spain, Germany and France. It is an edition dedicated to the cinema that tells stories of oppression and struggle with prizes for civil and social commitment and human rights. The competition has established itself not only as an initiative that gives space to young people and new talent but also as a subject of research and constant training.
Short films will also be imposing themselves into the panorama of audiovisual production as an innovative, storytelling, communication and experimentation product, with its own autonomy of language and audience. A microcosm that spreads itself throughout the network that has grasped its potential immediately. The grand final of the festival will be anticipated, Thursday, December 8 with the national preview screening "Merci Patron”, the documentary made by French journalist François Ruffin, founder of the satirical magazine Fakir, who inflamed France and has accompanied it in the protests against the labour reform. Included in the jury are producer Matilda Barbagallo, screenwriter Filippo Gravino and editor Marco Spoletini, along with Nie Wiem for civic engagement, Amnesty International for Human Rights, Coop Alliance 3.0 and Cooss Marche for social issues. At the screenings, there will also be an original market dedicated to enthusiasts and nostalgics of Super8, the camera that made history with home cinema, with period instruments and rare materials. Seven films, not in competition, will come from Spain, selected by "Madrid en corto."
