Lighting also plays a key role in this central area. Why? In this case, **the lighting serves both to instill a welcoming and fresh atmosphere and to illuminate the workstations and mealtime**. In addition, with the help of the right designer lamps, it is possible to add a touch of unique style to every corner of the kitchen. In this article, we will take a look at how you can combine performance and aesthetics in a lighting design project for a modern kitchen.  In particular, we will talk about: - [****Lighting design** **projects for a modern kitchen: 3 factors to consider****](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/en/modern-kitchen-lighting#lighting) 1. Before you select the most suitable lamps for the furnishing concept of the environment you are working with, we recommend that you: ### ****1. Evaluate the configuration of the kitchen and the height of the ceiling**** **First of all, you should consider the layout of the kitchen** (fridge, stovetop, and worktop) **and the height of the ceiling**. These two aspects are directly functional in identifying the most suitable solutions for the project, and by considering them right away, you will avoid making errors concerning the space and dimensions of the lamps suitable for installation.   [![Optimize the design of a lighting system in 8 simple steps](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/3920789/interactive-166324872516.png)](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/hs/cta/wi/redirect?encryptedPayload=AVxigLKniUTTZ6PpxtcnRXyFNoaJOeRDNS5vd%2FDyv8qVherdL2%2Bj1xAA0x8Q7T%2FFI6uN3Ty8z9pu48mAzExJtSoefP82hQFfRDm%2FnKMwUAtVUWtn%2F4x7ruqk4WRVvXI1AO5jB307CI3WLP8tY4I%2Bypnk76BrhOU%2BBoMhk9EJwksnyOGZKeZrm%2FBOs4pfxLm36Bg85QDtUizM%2Bz7iANXomS43%2FRveEXTnQuA%3D&webInteractiveContentId=166324872516&portalId=3920789)   ### ****2. Choose suitable temperature lights**** [**Choosing the right temperature and light intensity**](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/en/choose-color-temperature-lighting-project) is fundamental because they determine different visibility conditions and, consequently, create particular and unique atmospheres. The sources of warm light and cold light can influence the perception we have of spaces, in addition to our emotions. Warm lights will outline an intimate and warm atmosphere, while cold lights will give an energetic and dynamic touch to the kitchen.   ![Lighting for modern kitchens: Kimono](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/hs-fs/hubfs/karman-modern-kitchen-lighting-kimono.jpg?width=960&height=640&name=karman-modern-kitchen-lighting-kimono.jpg) *Kimono* ### ****3. Identify the most suitable arrangement of the light points**** According to the predisposition of three focal points in the kitchen (refrigerator, stovetop, and worktop), the lamps designated for the project in question must be positioned accordingly. Lighting must find continuity in every space: over the stovetop, in the dining room, and along the walls. **Decide where to place the lamps with the client** based on the kitchen plan, and aim to create a dynamic composition, without sacrificing performance and functionality. ## **What lights should you put in a modern kitchen? 3 solutions for a perfect lighting composition** After having determined the key points just mentioned, you can then select the lamp model most in line with the client’s needs and tastes. In this case, we suggest choosing: ### **1. LED lighting for under the cabinets and above the stovetop** **The lighting above the stovetop and under the cabinets is often not enhanced**; indeed, it is not accentuated in any way. Here, however, light is essential to guarantee visibility and safety so that you can carry out work and food preparation in total comfort. **We recommend installing LED light strips** under the cabinets and, if not already equipped, the hood right above [**the stovetop**](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/en/how-to-illuminate-a-kitchen-hob). **It is an efficient, green, and smart solution** since it gives the right brightness to the areas of interest and limits energy consumption.   ![how-to-choose-the-lighting-for-the-kitchen](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/hs-fs/hubfs/how-to-choose-the-lighting-for-the-kitchen.jpg?width=960&height=640&name=how-to-choose-the-lighting-for-the-kitchen.jpg) *Cupido* ### **2. Suspensions and recessed solutions for the island and dining room** **If the stovetop is located on an island in the center of the kitchen**, therefore, outside the perimeter where we find dishwashers, drawers, and sideboards, **it would be better to opt for built-in solutions**. These models impart directional brightness to the cooking area and adjacent work areas without hindering the field of view. As for the dining room, the table must be treated as the real protagonist of the space. That’s why we **recommend installing** [**a suspension**](https://www.karmanitalia.it/en/product-category/suspension/) **or a composition of these models** based on the table’s shape. By doing this, **you will guarantee that the entire top has light, while at the same time introducing decoration and dynamism to the atmosphere**, especially if the lamp design matches the furnishing context. ### **3. Wall and ceiling lights for kitchen walls** Concerning walls, it is advisable to opt for wall solutions such as [**wall lights**](https://www.karmanitalia.it/en/product-category/wall/) or [**ceiling lights**](https://www.karmanitalia.it/en/product-category/ceiling/). These models will guarantee accent and indirect light points to the space by decorating it and enriching it with details.   ![what-lights-to-put-in-a-modern-kitchenjpg](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/hs-fs/hubfs/what-lights-to-put-in-a-modern-kitchenjpg.jpg?width=960&height=640&name=what-lights-to-put-in-a-modern-kitchenjpg.jpg) *Bag* ## **How to enhance the lighting of a modern kitchen** In this article, we talked about the design solutions that shouldn’t be missing in [**a decorative lighting project for the home**](https://storybox.karmanitalia.it/en/decorative-home-lighting) and, therefore, modern kitchens. Thanks to these light sources, as a whole, you can create **a lighting composition of great aesthetic and functional value**.
